Smithstown Light Engineering was founded by Brian King in 1974 and has been manufacturing in Shannon since then. Starting out with a workforce of 4 skilled toolmakers, Smithstown has steadily built over the years and now employs over 240 people. Based in Smithstown Industrial Estate in Shannon, Smithstown Light Engineering is a second generation indigenous Irish firm serving the top medical device and orthopaedic companies in the world.

This partnership strengthened our position in supplying plastic injection moulds to the electronics industry. We also manufactured high precision production tooling and jigs and fixtures.
Our strong background in developing high quality products stood us well and we moved to develop the quality systems to support this new focus.
Since then, we have invested heavily in machinery, technology and in our staff to become a premium supplier in the medical devices sector.
Molex accepted an offer from Smithstown for their share in the company. We implemented ISO 90001 to further strengthen our QMS.
To allow for future growth of the company, we extended our building and continued to invest in technology by adding several new machining resources.
Having reached capacity at our headquarters, we opened a second facility and hired 30 new staff.
Our new manufacturing facility was officially opened by Pat Breen TD, Minister for Trade, Employment, Business, EU Digital Single Market and Data Protection.
We opened our 3rd manufacturing facility in Rzeszów
Following 3 years of research, planning and investment, we have brought the whole additive manufacturing technology process under one roof.
